FLAME Logo

Logo Design & Branding

A local Special Educational Needs school approached me with the exciting opportunity to assist in rebranding their Physical Education department through designing the FLAME logo.

The FLAME programme, an acronym for Fun Learning And Movement Education, represents the essence of Physical Education at the school. Rooted in the core principles of inspiration, courage, equality, determination, respect, excellence, and friendship, FLAME aimed to inspire students on their journey to personal growth and achievement. To acknowledge their progress, students would be awarded stars, each representing a different level of their flame, ranging from flickering flame to full flame.

The brief called for capturing the electrifying spirit of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. The image of a flaming torch, an enduring symbol of determination and the pursuit of excellence, immediately came to mind. The stars encircling the torch signify the various levels of achievement, providing a tangible representation of the students' progress and accomplishments.

The FLAME logo has not only been a resounding success, but it has also garnered recognition. The PE department's rebranding efforts, including the FLAME, earned them a well-deserved innovation award from the Youth Sport Trust.

Throughout the school, the FLAME logo has been prominently featured even being used on wearable merchandise which was met with tremendous enthusiasm by staff and pupils. The logo has become a symbol of pride and unity, fostering a shared sense of purpose and achievement within the school community.

What began as a project to rebrand the Physical Education department quickly transcended its original scope. The FLAME program was such a success it led to its adoption of the logo as the official logo for the entire school, becoming a key part of the school's identity and representing the values that the school holds dear.
